Boot Hill Casino & Resort is a state-owned commercial casino on the west side of Dodge City, managed by BHCMC, a subsidiary of Butler National Corporation. It opened in December 2009 as the first of Kansas's state-owned casinos. It rates 4.0 from around 2,900 Google reviewers.
Dodge City is a long way from any other casino in Kansas, which shapes what Boot Hill is: the default night out for southwest Kansas and a convenient stop for travelers on US-50 and US-400. It is a mid-sized floor with tables and a sportsbook, not a sprawling resort.
What's on the floor
Around 500 electronic gaming machines, per the operator's materials, covering reel slots, video slots and video poker.
Live table games run to roughly 15 to 16 tables, depending on which Butler National release you read, with blackjack, craps and roulette among them.
There is a sportsbook with betting windows and screens, which doubles as a bar and casual food spot.
What we could not confirm is a dedicated poker room. The casino's site does not mention one, so call ahead if live poker is why you are going. There is no bingo.
Dining and entertainment
Firesides Grill, a casual restaurant of around 150 seats, is the main sit-down option. The sportsbook bar covers quick bites and drinks.
Next door, United Wireless Arena hosts concerts, shows, sports and other events, and Boot Hill also has an adjacent event and conference center for meetings and private functions. On arena nights, expect the casino to be noticeably busier.
Where to stay
Boot Hill's site takes room bookings, but the property has historically relied on hotels nearby rather than a large tower of its own. A new 102-room Best Western GLō hotel, within walking distance of the gaming floor, broke ground in August 2025 with an opening targeted for late 2026. It is planned to have an indoor pool, fitness room and meeting space. Check whether it has opened before you book.
Dodge City itself has a good range of chain hotels within a short drive.
Tips before you go
You must be 21 to gamble at Boot Hill, whether at the slots, the tables or the sportsbook.
Google lists the casino as open 24 hours a day, every day, and the casino's own site agrees. Restaurant, sportsbook and table game hours vary, so check those separately if you are arriving late.
Ask about smoking policy when you arrive if it matters to you; the casino does not spell it out on its site.
If you are visiting Dodge City for the history, the Boot Hill Museum and Front Street are in town, a few minutes from the casino.
Nearby alternatives
The nearest Kansas alternatives are a long drive east. Kansas Star Casino Hotel & Event Center south of Wichita is the large commercial option, and Crosswinds Casino in Park City is a slots-only room on Wichita's north side.
