Kansas Crossing almost never happened. When the state drew four casino zones in 2007, the southeast one attracted a single bidder, Penn National, which pulled out in 2008. Its stated reason, according to the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission, was the $300 million Downstream Casino that had just opened in Oklahoma, less than two miles from Penn's proposed site in the corner of Cherokee County. After that, no one applied at all. It took a 2014 law, HB 2272, cutting the zone's minimum investment from $225 million to $50 million, to bring bidders back. Kansas Crossing won in June 2015, broke ground in Pittsburg in May 2016 and opened on 31 March 2017, the last of the four state-owned casinos.

Where it is, and why the location matters
The casino describes its spot as the heart of the Four States area, near the junction of US-69 and US-400 just outside Pittsburg. The site choice was itself contested: a rival bid proposed reopening the old Camptown Greyhound Park in Frontenac, and another wanted a site in Cherokee County less than a mile from both the Missouri and Oklahoma borders. Cherokee County then sued to stop construction in Crawford County, and lost all the way to the Kansas Supreme Court. Pittsburg won the casino, which is why this corner of Kansas has a state-owned floor at all.
The floor and its hours
Kansas Crossing is not a 24-hour casino. The floor opens at 8am and closes at 4am every day, which matters if you plan to arrive after midnight. The table pit has 14 games, including craps, roulette and blackjack, and opens at 10am daily. Blackjack runs from $5 all day, and on Tuesdays the casino has been running $3 table games through the day. The slot side carries the usual mix of newer linked games and older favourites, and the DynaMYte Club handles rewards, from free play to complimentary rooms and birthday offers.
Kansas Crossing Casino restaurant: Two Brothers Mining Co.
The main restaurant has the best backstory in the building. Two Brothers Mining Company is named for the Collier brothers, third-generation miners who, the casino says, opened a tavern after Prohibition so their friends could let off steam after a shift in the pits. The dining room is styled on the region's mining history. The menu is steakhouse first (hand-cut ribeye, a smoked and seared Kansas City strip, sirloin and prime rib), with burgers, flatbreads, pasta and salads behind it.
It opens at 11am daily and serves until 9pm Sunday to Thursday and 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays. The house dare is the Brutus Buster Challenge: finish the listed meal inside 30 minutes and dinner is free, plus a place on the wall of fame. Tripadvisor placed the restaurant in its top 10% of restaurants worldwide for 2026.
The Caesars Sportsbook doubles as the second place to eat, open from 11am until 1:30am daily, with a late-night bites menu until 1am Sunday to Thursday.
The hotel
The Hampton Inn & Suites is attached directly to the casino, with 123 rooms and suites, and books on its own line at (620) 231-3100. Rewards members can earn complimentary nights through the DynaMYte Club, which makes it the natural base for a concert weekend.
Concerts in the Corral
Ticketed shows play in the Corral, and the summer brings an Outdoor Concert Series on a separate outdoor stage. The autumn 2026 calendar lists Drake White on 24 October, Jenna Paulette on 21 November and a Tony Bennett tribute on 12 December, all at 8pm, plus free shows such as Martin & The Dead Guys on 9 October and The Mixtapes on 10 October. Check the casino's entertainment page before you plan around a date, as listings change.
The rest of Kansas
Pittsburg is a long way from the other three state-owned casinos. Our statewide casino guide lists every Kansas floor by region, from Kansas Star near Wichita to Boot Hill in Dodge City.
Playing from home instead
